The Return of Cool: Bringing Back the Fedora

This is not exactly new on the scene but I just heart the fedora so much that I had to write a love post about it.  The hat that upped Frank Sinatra’s status as the king of cool has made a comeback in a BIG way these past few years.  It can be seen in any season on any gender made out of any number of materials.

For example, I was driving to meet my friend Mere for brunch on Sunday and in the few short blocks I drove downtown I saw a guy wearing a black fedora and then when I got to the restaurant our waitress was wearing an uber cute straw fedora.

I’ll give you another example: I was recently in San Diego on business and the valet attendants at my hotel wore straw fedoras as part of their uniform.  I thought it was awesome and I definitely told them so.  It just adds something to an outfit to top it off with a fedora.

Trying out the style at Stag

When I think of fedoras I typically associate them with menswear, as is evident by my reference to Sinatra, but actually the hat was first introduced via the heroine, Princess Fedora, in a French play circa 1882.  Figures it would be French, right?  They always seem to come up with the good fashion stuff!  While it started out as a women’s style, it took no time at all to catch on with the guys.  What really brought the fedora into the forefront of fashion was the gangsta during the 1920’s and 1930’s Prohibition Era.  No respectable wiseguy at that time would have be seen without a fedora to match his pinstripe suit.  But as is normal in the fashion world, after the 1950’s the fedora lost it’s popularity.

This is no longer the case.  The fedora is back!  There is something super cool about a guy or girl that can rock the fedora and I’m seeing it constantly.  No matter where you go shopping right now you can find fedoras of all shapes and sizes to suit your needs.  Go ahead.  Walk on the wild side and grab a straw style for the summer.  I bet you’ll get looks and compliments.

Gentlemen, whether it’s with a suit or a t-shirt and jeans, a guy that wears a fedora catches my attention.  I’m just sayin’…
