Heeelllloooo Hauteness readers! Sorry I have been MIA for the past month. A crazy work schedule plus the misery that is Texas allergies combined with some travel led to this disappearance. But, I’m baaaaacccckkkk!!!
So first comes first, I have to do a brief belated post on Oscar fashion. Some overall observations…
- There were more hits than misses this year. A pleasant surprise indeed.
- Nude was all over that red carpet. From Halle Berry’s Marchesa gown to Mandy Moore’s Monique Lhullier stunner to Florence Welch’s Valentino Haute Couture doily, flesh tones were everywhere.
- Black was done right. Sharon Stone, who has a great figure and timeless beauty, often is a fashion don’t on the red carpet but she did it right in black Dior for the Oscars.
- The ladies did not shy away from wearing red on the red carpet. Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang, Anne Hathaway in Valentino Haute Couture and Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein Collection all hit the fashion nail on the head.
- The men all looked dashing and handsome. I didn’t see any tux disasters on the red carpet. Even Tim Burton stepped it up. Well done gentlemen!
My favorites included….

- Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Couture

- Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood

- Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Haute Couture

- Hillary Swank in Gucci Premiere

- Best Dressed Couple: Camila Alves in Kaufman Franco and Matthew McConaughey in Dolce & Gabbana
Those I thought to be not-so-haute included…

- Marisa Tomei in vintage Charles James

- Florence Welch in Valentino Haute Couture

- Nicole Kidman in Dior Haute Couture

- Amy Adams in L’Wren Scott

In addition to my What’s Haute, What’s Not commentary on the SAG red carpet, I wanted to spotlight what the stars of Glee wore to the SAG’s. Yes, I know. I’m showing favoritism by giving them their own post. Oh well! That’s the power of having your own fashion blog. Hehe.

The awards season is officially in full swing! Now that the Golden Globes and SAG’s have been handed out there are definitely red carpet trends to be found. I actually watched the SAG’s while flying home from NYC last Sunday (I heart JetBlue and it’s wonderful TV’s!) and took copious mental notes on all of the fashions I saw. Here are a few of my humble perceptions:
- Nude, cream and white seem to be THE colors. I had to do a double take when I saw Hilary Swank because her Versace gown literally blended with her skin tone.
- Grecian goddesses glided down the red carpet. As a girl that loves some good draping, I was all about this trend. Although I don’t quite get what was going on with Kim Kardashian’s Marchesa gown.
- Julie Bowen decided to make a statement by strutting down the red carpet in a Malandrino pantsuit. I just can’t get into this trend. While she looked classy and wore it well, it still was a bit of an awkward look for me. I see pantsuits and think 70’s disco queen.
- It was all about fitted looks, with very few wearing flared ballgowns at the SAG’s. I loved this considering I am all about celebrating curves, especially when those curves belong to Sofia Vergara in Roberto Cavalli. Good lord that woman has a figure!
- The men kept it classic for the most part. Although a few, cough cough Christian Bale and John Krasinski, opted for the black on black look. I don’t dig this AT ALL. It makes the men look pale and almost vampire-like. Give me a classic tux or suit anyday. The men should take a cue from Jon Hamm in his Calvin Klein Collection suit. Swoon!
So without further adieu, here are my HAUTE and NOT-SO-HAUTE looks from the Screen Actors Guild Awards…

Hi everybody. I’m recovering from a mini Summer bug and preparing for a long Labor Day Weekend in NYC so my blogging will be a bit slow this week. I’ll make up for it with lots of pics from the Big Apple and hopefully an epic story or two to share with you next week.
In the meantime, I feel just good enough to give my feedback from the Emmy Awards last night…
- Navy blue was a big trend. Considering I’ve been OBSESSED with navy lately, I was thrilled to see so much of it on the red carpet.

- Natural, almost messy hair was all over the place. There was little gel to be found amongst the glamazons that attended. From Claire Danes loose locks to Christina Hicks’ gorgeous red curls, hairstylists let natural beauty reighn last night.

- As always, black was everywhere. Eva Longoria, Heidi Klum, Kathy Griffin, and Kate Gosselin (why was she there?) all kept it basic with the color that everyone, male or female, looks good in.

- Who needs two straps when you can look fab in one?! One shouldered gowns were a close second to the usual strapless gowns this year. That’s sayin’ something!

- Jewelry was minimal. Lea Michele showed off a dazzling necklace, Kim Kardashian rocked some bracelets with her grecian white, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ turquoise earrings took attention away from her black gown, but aside from that I don’t remember many accessories from last night. I guess this really is the year of “less is more”.

- The handsome men on the red carpet apparently didn’t get my memo on the hotness that is the bow tie look. Stephen Moyer, Cory Monteith, and Peter Facinelli all rocked regular ties.

- Best dressed came down to two women for me: Glee’s Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta and an Armani Prive clad Claire Danes blew me away last night. Well done!
