Fashion Tip Friday
Have you ever put on a pair of shiny brand new shoes and took two steps on the concrete or tile floor and bam!? You’re on your butt and you have no idea how you got there. Gentlemen, this question applies to you as well the ladies. Oftentimes dress shoes, when they’re fresh out of the box, are quite slippery and downright scary to walk in. Well listen up because there is a solution…or two.
1) For less expe
nsive shoes I want to share a backstage secret I learned while working fashion shows. Take a knife from your kitchen (preferably one that is cheap, no Cutco knives please) and make criss-cross slices across the bottom of your shoes. Obviously don’t go too deep but be sure to go deep enough to instill texture on the sole. This texture will create traction that will allow the shoe to grip better when you’re walking across slippery surfaces.
2) For your more expensive shoe purchases I recommend taking them to your local shoe repair shop. For $15-$30 (depending on where you live) they can add a reinforced sole to the bottom of the ball of the shoe. This reinforced sole adds traction and elongates the life of the shoe by creating a thicker, stronger outsole.
Take these tips and be sure not to slip while you’re out on the town this weekend. Happy Friday!
